Driving the Green An Irish Golfing Adventure Kevin Markham 9781848891982 Books Reviews
- As books about Irish golf go...this one is average. Park the camper, play golf, drink in the clubhouse...Repeat for 200+ pages. Almost forgot, rain.
- Having played several courses in Ireland on a solo trip this book perfectly captures the essence of golf....and Ireland. A perfect way to prepare for a trip or to have fond memories of a past one
- Doesn't describe the courses, doesn't give useful travel info, doesn't tell yo anything about golf. I assume hooked is the book I would have enjoyed. Markham seems like a decent fellow, but I didn't need 200 pages complaining about a leaky campervan roof, bad food, and drunk people in pubs.
- A fantastic read and an adventure that will make any golfer "green" with envy. Kevin captures the culture, history, people, and golf in Ireland brilliantly. But it's his adventures with his old friend "Rusty" - the campervan that served as home and transportation - that really steals the show.
- Well written book. Great to read about how another Irish golfer played the various courses in Ireland. Interesting facts to add to the story, with a lot of humor, to make the reading easy. Wish Kevin would have included Fortwilliam, on Antrim Road, just north of Belfast, in the courses he visited.
- Very funny and entertaining. It has the feel of an Irish golf trip that you get to ride along on. We have used Kevin Markham's other book Hooked to plan our 2 golf trips to Ireland and the information is invaluable. Make sure you read both.
- Kevin's books (this, along with Hooked) have become my go-to gifts for American friends planning golf trips to Ireland. Crucial is the amateur's point of view (as we know golf courses look increasingly different to one's eyes as the handicap gets closer to zero). Kevin's writing style makes the book an entertaining read to boot. Great stuff, and keep them coming.
