For a writer to capture any river’s story is a huge challenge–the more so for an ancient waterway like the Klamath. Fortunately, the Klamath has found a soulmate in Neil Rucker, whose lifelong passion for canoeing has brought him to this river literally hundreds of times. One of the West’s foremost canoe instructors, his legendary canoeing expertise, native teaching abilities and remarkable talents as a story teller, Neil manages something that precious few guide book writers achieve an artful blend of fact and story that brings the river truly alive. The whitewater information here is rock solid. The personal anecdotes from a lifetime on the river are priceless. Woven together, they create a seamless, thoroughly enjoyable journey down one of the West’s great rivers. Reading this book you’ll almost feel like Neil is paddling alongside you. Let Neil show you his river. He’ll make sure you have a good time. . . Bill Cross, author,Western Whitewater

"Better than the alternatives for the Klamath. I used some other guides, then studied this book more later. Wish I had started with this book - it would have saved me some time re-inventing the wheel. Better rapid ratings, more up-to-date access info, and more thorough than the alternatives. However, any paper book gets out of Date. China Point Access is now closed...... I have run the Middle Klamath 5 times in the last 3 years, and this book is where you should start. Weak on lodging options."

- This book tells everything you need to know about canoeing the klamath.
I ordered it but it did not come in time for my trip.
I wish it did because it would have saved me a lot of guessing, but I guess thats the fun of a canoe trip or any adventure.
Excelent guide with drawings and everything. - I began canoeing with Neil over a decade ago, as a Scoutmaster bringing a score of boys up to the Klamath for a week's whitewater canoeing instruction. And then we returned 3 times over the years. Using the first edition of Neil's book as an in-depth guide, I've led paddle trips down the Middle Klamath a number of times. It is first-class and indispensable. And while the written anecdotes can't compete with actually having Neil sitting around your campfire, they come darn close. Highest recommendation.

Boulder, CO - If you're going to boat the Klamath River, take along a copy of this book. Nowhere else will you find such a neat distillation of the lessons learned in thirty years of running the same water. Whether you raft, canoe, or kayak, you'll find this book a joy to read and a jewel to have with you.
- Take full advantage of Neil Rucker's experience when you plan your next canoe trip on the middle Klamath. There are so many great runs in this section of water for boaters who really love combining their love of wildlife with their love for the art of open boating.
