I DIED. For forty-two seconds I died.
They were operating on me—why isn’t important anymore—and it was a simple surgery, everyone said so. My dad didn’t even take off work.
Breathing, breathing, not.
I can picture it. The “oh, no,” the scurrying around, the paddles on my chest, thwump. Clear! Thwump. Beep beep, beep beep, she’s back.
Everything back to normal.
THEY DON'T KNOW ANYTHING.
**
Cara Campbell thought she had it made star athlete, popular student, winner. But when she dies during surgery, she sees something she knows no one would ever believe. The doctors manage to revive her, but what happened during those 42 seconds of death has changed everything.
Now Cara is having a hard time adjusting to her former life. None of her friends or accomplishments matter anymore. What does matter is the face she saw as she came rushing back into her body. That face belongs to David Mayer, a brainy outcast who dislikes Cara even more than she does him.
As Cara sorts through the ramifications of her near-death experience, and struggles to overcome her fear of telling everyone what really happened, she discovers a path she never realized lay ahead of her.
And as Cara is about to learn, there are no coincidences.

INTERVIEW WITH THE AUTHOR
Q I've heard you say that doing the research for your books is almost as much fun as writing them. What research did you do for REPLAY?
A I attended a 3-day workshop with about 50 people who had had near-death experiences. Their stories of what they saw blew my mind.
Q Similar to what the little boy saw in HEAVEN IS FOR REAL?
A Everyone was different. What each of them saw and experienced was meaningful to them. It was really an awe-inspiring event. For those who can't attend something like that in person, I recommend Anita Moorjani's memoir DYING TO BE ME. She gives a very thorough and touching recount of her own near-death experience, and shows how what she learned can help all of us live our lives more fully. It's a beautiful book.
Q You also delve into reincarnation in REPLAY. What research did you do for that?
A I've always been fascinated by the concept of reincarnation. I've read countless books about it over the years just for fun. I particularly recommend anything by Dr. Brian Weiss, a psychiatrist who had to overcome his skepticism about reincarnation after one of his patients proved to him it was real. Start with his first book, MANY LIVES, MANY MASTERS and continue from there. Every single one of his books will completely reorganize your view of life, death, and the soul.
Q For fans of REPLAY, what other books have you written that they might enjoy?
A I suggest trying the PARALLELOGRAM series. I explore a lot of very cool frontier science in that, including parallel universes and time travel. And yes, there are physicists who believe in both. After all the research I did for that series, I'm halfway convinced myself!

"I liked this book, in spite of the fact that it wasn't what I expected. I thought it was going to be some sort of fantasy novel. Still, the characters were well drawn and engaging and the plot was interesting. There's a small amount of "language" in a couple of places, mostly from one particular and rather obnoxious character.
Give it a shot, I think you will enjoy it."

- I just got a kindle fire and began shopping for books. I was looking for sci-fi, fantasy and metaphysics in the free price range and this one popped up. Had I realized the main character was only 16 I might not have gotten it, but I missed that detail and was intrigued by the "I died" opening line.
The opening line was a good hook, and Robin Brand kept dropping hooks all the way through the story, keeping the narrative moving and interest high.
This is an idea driven story, so it is not much about plot or character development. While that can hurt a story if it is not handled well, in this case it was deftly done and worked. Ms. Brand had a careful balance of story development and injection of new ideas and concepts so the story did not get bogged down with info dumps, but the information was given as needed.
On the down side, the lack of character development did cause some small confusion. For example, Cara and her best friend are suddenly not best friends. Cara offers no real explanation in her inner dialog or in her conversations with the other girl or anybody else. She does much the same with her coach - not only dropping all sports, but rudely dismissing him without explanation.
While I think this book is aimed at teens, it does have some frank and well done discussion about sex, domestic violence and death. All were well handled and should not be a problem for any teen, but may invoke some questions or discussion.
Overall the dialog works, there were only a few places that it seemed clunky and forced. I did not note any typos or problems with grammer, which is nice in a free book.
People - and teens - who read this book might want to read some books by John Edward or Ruth Montgomery for more information on what happens after death. - Oh, this is another winner for Robin Brande.
Cara is a 16 year old athlete and one of the most popular girls in school. Her near death experience makes her start to question her actions, her friends and her past. This story is engaging and so well written that at times I didn't even like Cara...or more that I didn't like her behavior, I guess.
This book is great for teens, to help them understand how their actions affect others, to see that things are not always as they seem and to let them know it's ok to be different.
But I'm a middle aged adult and I couldn't put this book down. Read it in one day and now I'm off to find another Robin Brande book. - A sweet book about a teenage girl who experienced something quite profound and now is dealing with what her life should be in the aftermath. Cara is the protagonist. She is the perfect teen, 16 years old, popular, beautiful, a spots star and excellent student. After she dies and comes back into her own body, she knows she needs to change her life. She has some awkward starts to these changes, but her inner dialogue is really fun. She knows she is making a fool out of herself and she is fine with that! Her scenes with her little sister are wonderful, and her bickering with her new "friend" is very amusing.
This is a fine, good, easy book to read. When looking for something new to read, this is definitely the answer. - Interesting take on the afterlife, have not read an approach to "what comes after your heart stops" like this one yet. Enjoyed the book, worth the read.
- I liked this book, in spite of the fact that it wasn't what I expected. I thought it was going to be some sort of fantasy novel. Still, the characters were well drawn and engaging and the plot was interesting. There's a small amount of "language" in a couple of places, mostly from one particular and rather obnoxious character.
Give it a shot, I think you will enjoy it. - After I finish to read another book from the same author Evolution, Me and Another Freaks of Nature, I went to look for more and found this new one Replay. It was so good, that I could not put it down, so I finish it in a single day. I recommend it. It is not only well written, but the main topic is quite interesting. I did not want it to end and I just wish there would be a second part to it, to learn what is store in the future for all the characters especially Cara and David.
- I thoroughly enjoyed this e book..much more than i expected too..well written..interesting characters...very thought provoking plot premise..definitely 5 stars...and i look up her other books now too.
- I gave this book five star. I was hooked from the beginning to end. I couldn't get enough. I wish the book was longer and more to it at the end. However I would read it again and also would recommend my friends to read this book.
